DAY 2 OF COMPETITION / VISIT MALDIVES PRO 2024

DAY 2 OF COMPETITION / VISIT MALDIVES PRO 2024

The second day of the Visit Maldives Pro 2024 kicked off with conditions similar to the previous day. We had 2-meter waves with nice ramps, and once again, riders from different divisions showed off their incredible skills.

Today, we wrapped up the last 3 heats of Round 2 in the Men’s division. After that, we moved on to Rounds 1 and 2 of the Junior Men’s division. We continued with Round 3 of the Women’s division and finished the day with Round 3 of the Men’s division.

MEN’S DIVISION (Round 2 Non-Elimination “Heats 6 to 8”)

Just a reminder that this round is non-elimination, so the top two from each heat move on to Round 4, while the third and fourth place finishers get another shot in Round 3. The day started with the 3 heats from Round 2 that were left over from yesterday.

In Heat 6, we saw the current world number one, Armide Soliveres from the Canary Islands, who once again proved his top form by narrowly edging out Réunion Island rider Amaury Lavernhe.

Aitor Ojeda, also from the Canary Islands, took first in his heat, continuing to show his high level of performance, while the second spot went to one of the favorites, French rider Pierre Louis Costes.
In the last heat of this round, Brazilian rider Uri Valadao stood out with a total score of 15.25, executing an invert that scored 8.25. French rider Clement Lodeho came in second.

JUNIOR MEN’S DIVISION

ROUND 1

It was finally time for the highly anticipated Junior Men’s division, where the action was guaranteed.

Young Moroccan rider Sami Laabi had an amazing performance, not only scoring the highest total of the day at 15.25 but also pulling off an incredible invert that got the crowd cheering. The second spot went to Portuguese rider Frederico Castelo.

Vicente Campos from Portugal, just 14 years old, started strong and put on a great show, finishing first with a total of 14.25, leaving Australian Jai Taylor in second.

ROUND 2

Sami Laabi crushed it again, taking first place in his heat and solidifying his spot as one of the favorites in this event. Coming in second was USA rider Drake Kinghorn. Spanish surfer Ethan Pérez came out on top in his heat, beating out Australian Jai Taylor.

Milo Lautier did his thing, leading his heat ahead of young Vicente Campos, and both are moving on to the junior men’s main event. The fourth and final heat of this round was dominated by Portuguese surfer Frederico Castelo, with local rider Eyan Ahmed from the Maldives taking second place.

WOMEN’S DIVISION (ROUND 3 – Non-elimination)

It was time for the top women to get in action. This round isn’t elimination, so the first and second place finishers from each heat move straight to round 5, while the third and fourth place surfers get another shot in round 4.

Austria’s Alexandra Rinder kept her strong performance going, dominating her heat and leaving another favorite, Portugal’s Joana Schenker, in second. Former world champion Sari Ohara had an intense showdown, pushing current IBC World Tour number one, Brazil’s Maira Vianna, to second place.

Portugal’s Teresa Padrela did her job, finishing ahead of Japan’s Sara Abiko, and both are advancing to round 5. Canary Islands´ Teresa Miranda is still defending her title as the Visit Maldives Pro champion, proving once again she’s a strong contender for the title, racking up the highest score of the day with 13.9 points, plus pulling off an 8-point roll. In second place was former world champion Neymara Carvalho from Brazil.

MEN’S DIVISION (ROUND 3)

This round is a repechage, with head-to-head matchups. Only the first place finisher from each heat moves on to round 4.

Moroccan Gharib Abdelhafeid and Venezuelan Edwin Aldana made it through this repêchage round, with Spanish surfer Ethan Pérez standing out with a score of 14.25. Joaquín Soto from Chile also advanced with a score of 11.75.

Local Maldivian Aamin Moosa surprised everyone by eliminating current Junior World Champion Micheel Yancce from Peru.

The current number 1 in the Junior Men rankings, Alexander Montes, went up against his fellow countryman and friend Jorge Hernández in a super close heat. Alexander managed to eliminate one of the favorites by just 0.25 points!

Japan’s Hayato Enokido is still in the competition after a solid performance in his heat. To wrap up the day, Joel Rodrigues cruised through his heat, finishing first with a total of 13 points.

Once again, the Visit Maldives Pro didn’t disappoint, with all divisions showing off their high level of skill, thrilling both the live audience and those watching via streaming.

Tomorrow, on day 3 of the competition, the schedule is as follows:

– 7:00 am Check-in
