One of the most exciting editions of the IBC World Tour is here: the Gran Canaria Frontón King, and the tension is off the charts, especially in the Junior Men Division. This is probably one of the most important stages in the history of bodyboarding, with 7 title contenders from 4 different countries.
Once again, we have an exciting final event for the Pro Junior division, featuring some new names compared to last year, showing that the fresh talent is really positive for the division and bodyboarding as a whole. The future looks bright with the high level these young athletes are showing.
Once the competition kicks off, every heat will feel like a final for each of the 7 title contenders. It’s definitely going to be a great show. Let’s go!
Here are the chances and stats for the riders who still have a shot at becoming world champions in the Pro JUNIOR MEN DIVISION
CONTENDERS AND CHANCES:
1. MIKELLE ARRIAGADA (CHILE)
He’s got the best shot, with 3,720 points from his top 2 results without Frontón. If he wins the Gran Canaria Frontón King, he’ll be the world champion. If he makes it to the final against anyone not in the top 6 contenders, he’ll also be the champ.
2. LOUKA ZANINOTO (FRANCE) / UNAX PASCUAL (SPAIN) / JAI TAYLOR (AUSTRALIA)
They’re all in the same boat with 2,000 points as their best result. To have a chance at the world title, they need to reach at least the semifinals, and if they make it to the final with Mikelle, they have to win the event. In any other direct matchup in the final or semifinals, whoever comes in first will be the world champion.
3- ALEXANDER MONTES (CANARY ISLANDS) / ESTEBEN GODOY (CHILE) / BASTIÁN VENEGAS (CHILE)
They’re all in the same boat with a top score of 1,720 points. To have a shot at being World Champions, they need to make it to the finals. If they end up facing Mikelle in the finals, they’ve gotta win the event. In any other direct matchup in the finals or semifinals between them, whoever comes out on top will be the world champ.
The other competitors with scores of 1,460 points or more don’t stand a chance, even if they win the event, because they’ll max out at 3,710 points, and Mikelle already has 3,710 points, so catching up is just not gonna happen.
