Walker Bay Pro 2022 – Day 1 – HIGHLIGHTS

Walker Bay Pro 2022 – Day 1 – HIGHLIGHTS

Men’s round 1 got the day started with the first heat in the water at 8:00am with challenging 6-8ft conditions greeting the athletes. As the wind switched onshore later in the morning, conditions remained contestable, with wave selection becoming a critical factor during heats. Most the the day saw low scores, however Jeff Hubbard, Isabella Sousa and Benji Olivier found the best waves in their respective heats and were able to score 8 point rides.

Local boy, Tristan Roberts, scored a 7.75 in his heat and achieved the highest total score of the Men’s first round.

The Junior riders all showed courage in the wild conditions with Hugo Naude and Brayden Hewitt dominating their heats and moving through to the next round.

The Women took on the heavy onshore afternoon conditions with no fear. Isabela Sousa, Alexandra Rinder and Sari Ohhara got the biggest heat totals in each of their heats showing just how hungry each of them are for that World Tour title, which will be decided at the Walker Bay Pro 2022.

Overall a great day with lots of people coming down to Onrus Beach, lining the rocks and grassy banks, all supporting the local and international athletes and making sure the first African IBC event went off with a bang.
