Thursday, June 5th, Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
At 9:00 a.m. local time, the final day of the Itacoatiara Pro 2025 kicked off.
It was a spectacular day with perfect waves, no wind, and sunshine that made the beautiful colors of Itacoatiara Beach pop. Everything pointed to what was about to happen. The best athletes in the world on a final day that would showcase their full potential.

All set to find out who the new champion of the Itacoatiara Pro 2025 would be.
Today was entirely dedicated to head-to-head battles, which made the tension and the bodyboard show even more intense.

QUARTERFINALS
Let the action begin!
YON AYMAR (France) vs. TRISTAN ROBERTS (South Africa)
The first heat of the day was a clash of titans, where one of the top favorites got knocked out. Tristan Roberts couldn’t hang with a great Yon Aymar, who showed he’s in top form and is definitely a rider to beat.

BRAHIM IDDOUCH (Morocco) vs. ZACARIAS NUNES (Brazil)
Brazilian rider Zacarias Nunes, who’s been smoothly passing all his heats since round 1, couldn’t do it this time. Still, he finished in a well-deserved 5th place, the highest-placed Brazilian in the event. On the other side, Moroccan star Brahim Iddouch had an excellent heat and made it to the semifinals with a total score of 15.30.

PIERRE LOUIS COSTES (France) vs. CLEMENT LODEHO (France, Reunion Island)
Clement Lodeho has shown incredible versatility throughout the competition, but Pierre Louis Costes is a maniobra machine and is on his way to snagging one of the titles missing from his collection — winning in Itacoatiara.

AMAURY LAVERNHE (France, Reunion Island) vs. JOAQUÍN SOTO (Chile)
Joaquín Soto, one of the standout names of the contest, known for his speed and power on the lip, couldn’t make his dream come true this time and finished 5th, bringing that spot back to Chile. Meanwhile, Amaury Lavernhe was unstoppable, surfing like a god, and adding another perfect 10 to his career — pulling off a deep tube and an inverted aerial that was just mind-blowing.

SEMIFINALS
YON AYMAR (France) vs. BRAHIM IDDOUCH (Morocco)
Brahim Iddouch, the Moroccan powerhouse, didn’t have much luck in this semifinal but was happy with a solid third place in one of his favorite events. Yon Aymar, on the other hand, made it to his first-ever World Tour final, impressing everyone with a wide repertoire of maneuvers.

Yon Aymar: “I’m so happy. I’ve always fought to make it to a final. I train a lot for this, and I’m really grateful to my coach and family.”

AMAURY LAVERNHE (France, Reunion Island) vs. PIERRE LOUIS COSTES (France)
A battle between two of the biggest names in our sport’s history. They’re good friends and very loved, but also super competitive and gave it their all. Pierre was leading most of the heat, but with 8 minutes left, Amaury pulled off a huge inverted maneuver that scored him an 8.25 and sent him to the final.

EPIC FINAL
An adrenaline-pumping final filled with tons of emotion, perfect waves, sunshine, and a dedicated crowd on the beautiful Itacoatiara Beach.

AMAURY LAVERNHE (France, Reunion Island) vs. YON AYMAR (France)
A showdown between two French surfers in this huge final. Yon Aymar, making it to his first final ever in his career, versus Amaury Lavernhe, a two-time world champion and icon of the sport.
This final will be remembered forever because it had several shifts in momentum. Yon Aymar was dominating, pulling off a tube that scored a 9.10 and a reverse air that got a 7.40, giving him a total of 16.50. Amaury needed to do everything perfectly to beat Aymar.

But… we’re talking about one of the best riders in the sport. Amaury scored a 9-point wave with a deep tube from which he came out with a sick air roll. And when he only needed an 8+ wave to win, Amaury went all out on a powerful left, pushed to the lip, and pulled off a huge inverted air that made everyone on the beach of Itacoatiara stand up and cheer. Yes! He did it again — Amaury scored a perfect 10, signaling with his hands at the end of the move. Simply incredible what this guy achieved. No words can really describe his talent. He finished with a total of 19 points — the highest of the entire event — and scored not just one, but two perfect 10s. Absolutely mind-blowing!

So, we have a new champion of the Itacoatiara Pro 2025 — what an epic final day!
Amaury Lavernhe, smiling through tears, said: “It’s been incredible. I wasn’t planning to compete in the full tour this year, and honestly, I didn’t expect to win. I’m so emotional — this is a perfect dream. Good waves, great weather — it’s a real gift.” He also added, “Congrats to Yon Aymar on his first final. Thanks to IBC, the organizers, the riders, and especially my family. Itacoatiara is a special and unique place.”
