Day 1 ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro 2025 Opens in Brazil with Strong Performances Across Junior and Master Divisions

Jacaraípe, Espírito Santo, Brazil – September 12, 2025

The ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro 2025, presented by Extrabom, officially opened today at Jacaraípe Beach, marking the start of one of the most significant events on the IBC World Tour. The competition brings together women athletes from around the world across four categories: Women, Junior Women, Master Women, and Para Women (PWC), with multiple world titles to be decided in Brazil this week.

On the opening day, attention turned to the Junior Women and Master Women divisions. Both are single-event world championships, making every wave critical in the race for global crowns.

In the Master Women’s division, three-time world champion Mariana Nogueira (Brazil) showcased her experience and consistency, posting the highest total of the day with 15.00 points. Fellow Brazilian Juliana Dourado followed with 12.50 points, while pioneering world champion Claudia Ferrari, competing as a guest athlete from Hawaii, also made her presence felt. The division gathered 28 athletes from Brazil, Portugal, Morocco, and Hawaii across eight heats.

The Junior Women’s division opened the program with four heats featuring 13 athletes from six nations. Luana Dourado (Portugal), runner-up in 2024, claimed the standout score of the day with 14.50 points. She was followed closely by Brazil’s Manuella Giacomassi (10.75), Peru’s Hannah Saavedra (10.25), and Portugal’s Maria Padilha (8.50).

Reflecting on her strong start, Luana emphasized the high level of competition: “I felt really good on the first day. The level is strong, and I have to give my best to reach my goals. I found some good waves and I’m very happy with the result.”

Competition resumes on Saturday, September 13, with the Para Women’s (PWC) division, an exclusive category within the Wahine event, continuing its pioneering role in adaptive bodyboarding. Athletes across amputee, mastectomy, and visual impairment classifications will compete for 2025 titles.

This year’s Wahine event has attracted 120 athletes from more than 10 countries, with a total prize purse of USD $45,000. It serves as the final stop of the Women’s World Tour, where the professional title will also be decided.

Leading the race for the professional crown are Namika Yamashita (Japan), Alexandra Rinder (Austria), and Joana Schenker (Portugal), joined by a strong Brazilian contingent that includes local icons such as Neymara Carvalho, Maíra Viana, Maylla Venturin, and Bianca Simões.
