Monday, June 16, Punta 2, Iquique, Chile.
The action for the Women Prime Series kicked off at 8:00 AM local time in Iquique.

Wave conditions dropped a bit compared to yesterday. It started off windless, but the wind picked up during the day and switched to onshore, which made it tough for getting tubes. Still, we saw some awesome moves and high scores from the best bodyboarders in the world. Punta 2 always offers multiple sections where the girls showcased their great potential.

Rounds 1, 2, and 3 were contested today, bringing in the top 12 from the IBC rankings to hit the water.
ROUND 1 / WOMEN PRIME SERIES
This round featured athletes without an IBC ranking.
The first heat of the day featured Chilean athletes. Constanza Soto, the 15-year-old from Antofagasta, clearly took the lead and has been one of the standout performers today. Emiliana González came in second.

Anais Velis from Chile also did well, advancing past Japanese rider Haruka Yasumi.

In Heat 3, Costa Rica’s Dulce Agüero dominated, achieving the best score of this round. Second place went to Chile’s Viviana Araya.

Brazilian Nicolle Calheiros clearly led her heat with solid scores, followed by Panama’s Verónica Correa.

Her compatriot Anais Velis also qualified. Just 0.5 points shy was Japanese rider Kaira Shirahase, while Chile’s Emiliana González was also unsuccessful.

Brazilian Blanca Simoes performed well, finishing first ahead of another invited competitor, Chile’s Suy-Yin Estay. Costa Rica’s Dulce Agüero and Panama’s Verónica Correa didn’t advance but put on a good show.

ROUND 3 (Non-eliminatory) / WOMEN PRIME SERIES
At this stage, the top 12 from the IBC rankings entered the fray. It’s worth noting that this round isn’t eliminatory: the top two advance straight to round 5, while those in third and fourth get another shot in round 4.

The current world champion, Brazil’s Maira Viana, kicked things off strong, securing her spot in round 5 with one of the best totals of the day. Chile’s Constanza Soto, coming up from round 1, continued to advance.

Japan’s Namika Yamashita, the current number one in the rankings, had an intense heat, tying with Portugal’s Filipa Broeiro at 13 points. Both achieved their goal and moved on.

The day’s most spectacular heat featured Alexandra Rinder, currently ranked number 2 and a two-time world champion, who nailed the day’s highest score of 15.50 and the best wave at 8.5, executing a perfect left-side backflip. Another world champion, Joana Schenker, also advanced with a high score.

One of the standout newcomers of this championship, Brazil’s Nicolle Calheiros, once again claimed the top spot, proving she’s a favorite for the title. Close behind, her compatriot, five-time world champion Neymara Carvalho qualified and kept her motivation high, showing her experience and skill.

Tomorrow, the organizers will check in competitors at 7:30 AM local time, aiming to start around 8:15. If conditions allow, Round 3 of the Men’s Division is expected to kick off, followed by rounds 4 and 5 of the Women’s Division.
