Thursday, August 14, Mehdia Beach, Kenitra, Morocco.
At 8:45 am local time, the final day of competition for the Junior Men Rising Series Everyday Mehdya in Morocco began.
After two intense days of competition, today was the final day and we already have a champion for this great event on Mehdya Beach.

For the third day in a row, the morning brought bright sun and waves more organized than in previous days, so the show was on to watch the best juniors battle it out in the crystal-clear waters of Kenitra.
Today they held the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final.
QUARTERFINALS
This round consisted of 4 heats where competitors faced off one-on-one, raising the level and confidence for the contestants. Only one could advance to the semifinals and secure a spot on the Mehdya podium.
Yohann Bachelard from France faced Ethan Pérez from Spain in the day’s first bout. Ethan dominated again and moved forward first, as he’s done throughout the competition. The French rider didn’t make the podium in this event but heads home after a great performance.

Another big breakout of the championship, the local Moumou Hamza, once again showed his full potential and finished first, ahead of his friend and fellow countryman Laabi Sami, who earned a very deserved fifth place and left to applause from the local crowd.

Spanish duel in the third heat of the day, two riders who had been leading all their heats, Unax Pascual versus Néstor Reyes. Unax didn’t give the Canary Islander a chance and posted the best score of this round, 14.1.

The final heat of the quarterfinals matched two Moroccan athletes. Agouzul Abdelkarim won by just one point ahead of his compatriot Chahid Ayoub, who finished in fifth place to the applause of the home crowd.

SEMIFINALS
We’ve got the four top qualifiers guaranteed a podium, plus an insanely high level from these young world-class bodyboard hopefuls.
MOMOUM HAMZA (Morocco) vs. ETHAN PÉREZ (Spain)

Momou put up a great 15.25 total, hitting solid backflips and making things really tough for both his opponent and the judges. Ethan was just 0.5 tenths behind, with a 15.20 total, easily the best matchup of the day.

UNAX PASCUAL (Spain) vs. AGOUZUL ABDELKARIM (Morocco)
Second semifinal full of shifts, with the Spaniard able to ride several full waves and crack the final with the best 15.55 total. He heads to the final in Mehdya with first place, while the young Moroccan Agouzul leaves with third, having put on an impressive championship.

FINAL
Final At 12:00 am local time, after a 30-minute break, the highly anticipated Everyday Mehdya Junior Men Rising Series final in Morocco got underway.
A perfect sunny day with zero wind let the finalists and the crowd enjoy every second.
MOMOU HAMZA (Morocco) vs. UNAX PASCUAL (Spain)

As expected with two great riders in the water, it was a tightly contested final, full of emotion until the final horn. Unax Pascual led most of the run, landed a nice backflip and another wave with an inverted aerial scored at 7 points, giving him a 13.8 total. Momou Hamza, in the last minute, nailed a very clean right-side backflip that had the crowd on the edge, but he couldn’t reach the score he needed and finished just 0.35 short of the title.

So we have the Everyday Mehdya champion in Morocco: UNAX PASCUAL.

Champion Unax Pascual: “I want to especially thank the organizers—this has been a 10 out of 10 event. I felt really comfortable surfing today, and it’s been the best day of waves for me, a well-behaved sea that let me push my potential and take this trophy home. I was really impressed by the high level of Moroccan athletes. Thanks to everyone who supports me.”
