LUNA HARDMAN interview / I want to be the world champion in the Women’s division!

LUNA HARDMAN interview / I want to be the world champion in the Women’s division!

At IBC World Tour, we wanted to sit down for an interview with the current Junior Women Division world champion, a title she’s held for two years in a row. We want to highlight the amazing shape this rider is in—at just 18, she’s also ranked number 2 in the Women’s division. She’s a fantastic athlete surfing at an incredibly high level, and we have no doubt she’ll achieve her dreams.

In this interview, she shares some of her experiences, projects, and stories. We hope you enjoy it!

  • How did it feel to win the Junior Women’s World title for the first time, and did your feelings change when you won your second title?

Both times were very exciting and battled until the end, and the feeling was of accomplishment for all the hard work and for all the people who believe in me

  • What do you think about the IBC World Tour? Share some experiences from the different world events:

I love compete the IBC world tour, the opportunity to get to know cultures and people and compete in incredible waves during the year is incredible

  • We’ve heard that when you were younger, bodyboarding didn’t really catch your interest, but now it’s your passion. You’re not just aiming to be a junior world champion, but also to be a world champion in the Women’s division as many times as possible. Can you tell us a bit about that?

I’ve always admired my mother’s story a lot, but I never wanted to be her shadow so when I was little I always avoided bodyboarding because all the pressure they already put on myself was so young, but when I managed to have the maturity to ignore it, I fell in love with bodyboarding and never let go. And for sure my goal is to beat my mother’s titles haha

  • Who are your rider role models and how do they influence your surfing?

Neymara Carvalho (my mom) and Pierre Louis Costes, I love the riders who make big and beautiful curves like them and I want to do like them one day.

  • How do you see the level of women’s bodyboarding in Brazil right now?

A new generation is forming with the creation of Arcelor Mittal Wahine Pro, I hope they grow strong and compete with us one day

  • Would you like to see an IBC World Tour event in Brazil besides the Itacoatiara Pro and Arcelor Mittal Wahine Pro?

I’m already happy to have the Arcelor Mittal Wahine Pro at my place, it is the best event on tour for me, the great exchange between generations is the most exciting

  • What are your dreams inside and outside of bodyboarding?

Be a world champion and inspire as many young girls as I can

  • During this interview, you’re in Bali after being in the Maldives, which are definitely two paradises. Can you share a bit about your experience in these places? What other places in the world would you like to travel to, and what waves would you like to surf?

Maldives was certainly very exciting but the biggest focus was the championship, unlike Bali which is a surf trip without worries, just surf as much as I can and enjoy this paradise. I would like to know as many waves as I can around the world, such as Tahiti, Reunion Islands, Australia, I really love to travel.

  • Tell us about your future projects:

Compete the world tour and improve surfing the most beautiful waves in the world.

  • Share a few words for those young people who want to start or improve in bodyboarding:

Bodyboarding it’s the coolest sport ever, do what makes you happy and will be always the right thing

  • Here’s your space to say hi, thank anyone, or share whatever you want:

Thank you all the little girls who always cheers for me.
