Miguel Ferreira Makes History: Finals Day Awaits at Sintra Pro Fest

Praia Grande, Sintra – September 6, 2025

The Sintra Bodyboard Pro Fest is down to its last day, and Portugal already has plenty to celebrate. Miguel Ferreira wrote history today by advancing into the semi-finals of the Men’s division, defeating Morocco’s Brahim Iddouch. With this result, Ferreira guarantees himself a podium finish — at least 3rd place — something no Portuguese male rider has achieved here since João Barciela in 2014.

“At the start of the competition, my only goal was to equal my best result here, which was a fifth place, but I managed to surpass it. I felt more pressure in the early rounds, but at this stage the nerves are gone – everyone is strong, and there’s nothing to lose. Now it’s the semi-finals, same approach, and… trying to make history,” Ferreira said.

The only Portuguese male victory in Sintra dates back to 2003, when Manuel Centeno won the title.

In the Women’s division, Portugal is also assured of a podium finish. Both Luana Dourado and Filipa Broeiro reached the semi-finals and will battle for a spot in the grand final.

  • Semi-final 1: Luana Dourado (POR) vs Neymara Carvalho (BRA), five-time world champion.
  • Semi-final 2: Filipa Broeiro (POR) vs Sara Abiko (JPN), who earlier eliminated Teresa Padrela (POR).

For Broeiro, this is another step in Sintra where she was already a finalist in 2021, losing to Brazilian legend Isabela Sousa.

In the Men’s competition, alongside Miguel Ferreira, the semi-final lineup features some of the biggest names of the IBC World Tour:

  • Semi-final 1: Miguel Ferreira (POR) vs Badr Eddine Chajari (MAR).
  • Semi-final 2: Armide Soliveres (ESP) vs Pierre Louis Costes (FRA).

The clash between Soliveres and Costes is being touted as an “early final,” with both riders in the hunt for the world title.

Tomorrow, both the Men’s and Women’s champions will be crowned at Praia Grande, with the following schedule:

  • Men’s Semi-finals, Women’s Semi-finals
  • Women’s Final
  • Men’s Final

Beyond the competition, Praia Grande continues to host several cultural and environmental activities supported by the Municipality of Sintra, including sculptures made from beach waste, the “Urban Water Cycle” exhibition, and the “Sintra Glass + Glass” recycling campaign, promoted by SMAS de Sintra.
