Pierre Louis Costes and Filipa Broeiro Crowned Champions as Sintra Bodyboard Pro Fest 2025 Concludes in Historic Fashion

Three Portuguese athletes reach the finals at Praia Grande, with Broeiro making national history and Costes setting a new record.

Sintra, Portugal – September 7, 2025 – The Sintra Bodyboard Pro Fest 25 concluded today with a historic final day at Praia Grande, as France’s Pierre Louis Costes (PLC) and Portugal’s Filipa Broeiro were crowned champions of the 29th edition of the event. For the first time since 2009, three Portuguese athletes reached the finals, underlining the strength of the host nation’s new generation.

Pierre Louis Costes, a two-time world champion, captured his fifth Sintra title – his third in a row – becoming the sole record-holder for most victories at the event and surpassing Brazilian legend Uri Valadão. His triumph was cemented in the semifinals against his rival for the world title, Spain’s Armide Soliveres, before defeating Portugal’s Miguel Ferreira in the men’s final.

In the other semifinal, Ferreira achieved a landmark result, overcoming Morocco’s Badr Eddine Chajari to become the first Portuguese male bodyboarder to reach a Sintra final since Rui Ferreira in 2008.

The women’s final delivered another moment of national pride, with an all-Portuguese showdown between Filipa Broeiro and Luana Dourado. Broeiro emerged victorious, becoming only the third Portuguese woman to win in Sintra, after Catarina Sousa (2009) and Joana Schenker (2017). Dourado, just 16 years old, confirmed her immense potential with a runner-up finish that included a semifinal win over five-time world champion Neymara Carvalho (Brazil).

Costes reflected on his record-breaking victory:

“The Sintra Pro was the first world tour event I ever competed in, at age 14. In the two years that followed, Uri Valadão won consecutively, so he already had two titles at a time when I couldn’t even make it through a heat. So today, to surpass Uri was something I never expected. I also consider this the toughest event on the world tour because the ocean here is constantly changing. For me, winning in Sintra is like winning at home. And the trophy stays in Portugal. This trophy is for France, but also for Portugal.”

Runner-up Miguel Ferreira celebrated his career-best result with pride:

“I feel really good. I was more nervous in the early rounds, and a bit again in the semifinal. But in the final, I was very calm. I always imagined what it would feel like to win in Sintra. It didn’t happen this time, but for me, this was almost just as good.”

Women’s champion Filipa Broeiro shared her emotions after securing her first Sintra crown:

“It’s surreal to win here. I went into the water with my head held high, always thinking about never giving up and waiting for the right wave. It came, and I managed to make the right call. I know my worth, I worked really hard for this, and I always believed I could win. This time, after a lot of hard work, I did it, and I feel it was deserved.”

For Luana Dourado, the youngest finalist of the event, the achievement was just the beginning:

“I’m really happy with this final. Starting from the first round and making it here after eliminating Neymara Carvalho in the semifinals, and competing against some of the athletes I admire the most, makes me very proud. Now I hope that one day I can win.”

The 29th edition of the Sintra Bodyboard Pro Fest closed on a high note, with international champions and Portuguese breakthroughs combining to make this one of the most memorable chapters in the event’s storied history.
