Overcoming trickier conditions, the world’s top junior riders elevated their performances, finding ramps to deliver heavy maneuvers and decide the six coveted qualifying spots for the Gran Canaria Fronton King Grand Final.

1. Maiden Victory for Montenegro: Brazil’s Guilherme Montenegro locked in a career milestone, capturing his first IBC World Tour title after defeating local prodigy Jesus Mendoza in the Final.
2. Gran Canaria Finalists Confirmed: The six athletes who officially stamped their golden tickets to October’s Grand Final in the Canaries are Guilherme Montenegro (BRA), Jesus Mendoza (PER), Waldo Palacios (CHI), Lucciano Campos (PER), Kaleb Zagarra (PER), and Junior Mendoza (PER).
3. Wave of the Day: Peru’s Lucciano Campos put on an aerial clinic, finding a launching pad on the outside section to connect a massive projected ARS, earning the single highest score of Finals Day.
4. Brotherly Battle: Peruvian brothers Junior and Jesus Mendoza created a standout story, both successfully advancing out of a three-man Round 5 heat into the Quarterfinals.

While wave size remained in the 3-to-4-foot range on Finals Day, the ocean offered far better scoring opportunities than the opening rounds. Competitors adapted to the rhythm of the lineup.

The early rounds delivered pure drama, highlighted by the Mendoza brothers, Junior and Jesus, who found themselves matched up together in a high-stakes, three-man heat in Round 5. Demonstrating exceptional heat management, both Peruvian brothers advanced together into the Quarterfinals to keep their Grand Final qualification dreams alive.

As the draw narrowed, Lucciano Campos provided the day’s singular highlight-reel moment. The Peruvian standout timed an outside section to perfection, launching a well projected ARS that earned the highest single wave score of Finals Day (8.20).

The Semifinals set up one of the most anticipated matchups of the event, pitting Lucciano Campos against Brazil’s Guilherme Montenegro. Delivering non-stop action and high scores, Gui pulled ahead with precise wave selection to earn his spot in the grand final matchup.

In the Final, Gui faced local favorite Jesus Mendoza. Gui Montenegro seized control early, finding the best wave walls to construct a winning heat total and secure his milestone first career win on the IBC World Tour.

“I am very happy. Ever since I arrived, I’ve been saying that I came here to win,” said an ecstatic Montenegro following his victory. “In difficult waves, I surfed well against a tough opponent, and now we are heading to Fronton!”

The Road to the Grand Final

With the completion of the Punta Negra Junior Pro, the direct qualification pathway for the Gran Canaria Fronton King Grand Final in October is officially set. The top four automatic spots were locked in by the event’s semifinalists: Guilherme Montenegro (BRA), Jesus Mendoza (PER), Waldo Palacios (CHI), and Lucciano Campos (PER) (who had already qualified via his victory at the Morocco Pro).

The remaining two qualification spots were awarded to the highest-scoring quarterfinalists of the event: Kaleb Zagarra (PER) and Junior Mendoza (PER). (Note: Should any overall qualification ties occur later in the season, secondary event results will serve as the official tiebreaker).
