Portuguese Athletes Dominate Opening Day of the Professional Division at the ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro

Jacaraípe, Serra (Brazil) – September 14, 2025 – The ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro 2025, the final stop of the IBC Women’s World Tour, saw the Professional division officially take to the water on Sunday with Portugal making a powerful statement. Teresa Padrela and Luana Dourado secured the two highest heat totals of the day, confirming the strength of the Portuguese squad, which counts 11 athletes in the event.

Padrela set the standard with an impressive 17.00 points, scoring two excellent 8.50 rides with precise timing and progressive maneuvers in the waves of Solemar Beach, Jacaraípe. Dourado, runner-up in the Pro Junior last year, followed closely with 15.15 points, underlining her potential as one of the event’s breakthrough performers. Both athletes advance to the next round and will return to competition on Monday.

“The ocean was in great condition, and it felt like everything connected. For me, the Wahine represents inspiration, and today was pure happiness,” said Padrela.

Key Contenders Prepare for Day Two

The Wahine Pro brings together athletes from 10 countries, with the Professional division serving as the decisive stage of the 2025 season. The prize purse totals USD 45,000. On Monday, the world’s top-ranked bodyboarders enter the water, including current World No. 1 Namika Yamashita (Japan) and No. 2 Alexandra Rinder (Austria), alongside Portugal’s Joana Schenker (No. 4).

Brazil’s lineup is equally formidable, led by five-time World Champion Neymara Carvalho (No. 5), reigning World Champion Maíra Viana (No. 11), Maylla Venturin (No. 7), Bianca Simões (No. 8), and rising talent Luna Hardman (No. 21).

Masters Division Highlight

In the Masters, Claudia Ferrari – the inaugural World Tour Champion in 1995 – marked her debut at the Wahine with a confident win, posting 7.15 points to secure her place in the next round. Living in Hawaii since the 1990s, Ferrari returns to the competitive stage with the same energy that made her a pioneer of the sport.

PWD Champions Crowned

The weekend also concluded the PWD divisions, contested exclusively at the Wahine. Carla Cunha clinched her third consecutive title among Amputees, while Renata Bazone (Visually Impaired) and Tiana Viana (Mastectomy Survivors) both secured back-to-back victories, adding to the inclusive legacy of the event.
