Great performance from the Chileans on Day 1 of the IQUIQUE BODYBOARD PRO 2025!

On Sunday, June 15th, at Punta 2, Iquique, Chile.

The opening ceremony kicked off last Thursday, where the organizers showcased the event in front of sponsors, athletes, and staff. Registrations were finalized, and there was a competition and safety briefing. Everything was done very professionally to ensure that the spectacle at La Punta 2 remains one of the best on the world tour.

On Friday and Saturday, after doing several check-ins, the organizers decided to give the competitors a day off since the conditions weren’t right.

Today, Sunday, at 8:00 a.m. local time, the Iquique Bodyboard Pro 2025 started with great wave conditions. Rounds 1 and 2 of the Men’s Division showcased an incredible bodyboarding party, with barrels and ramps reflecting the high level of this competition.

ROUND 1 / MEN PRIME SERIES

In Round 1, the top two contestants advanced to Round 2, while the third and fourth places were eliminated. The round highlighted the great skill and knowledge of the local waves by the athletes.

In the first heat of the day, Chilean rider Bastian Venegas outperformed his rivals with a total score of 13.25. The second heat featured four Chilean athletes, with experienced rider Kevin Torres from Arica taking the win.

Cristian Tapia from Chile showed his incredible ability at La Punta 2, winning by just tenths over his teammate Sacha Damjanic, who also made it through. Renowned Chilean rider Moisés Silva advanced in first place, closely followed by compatriot Agustín Figueroa.

Juan Fischer, another Chilean rider, dominated his heat from start to finish with a total of 12.50 points. The top score of Round 1 went to one of Chile’s best athletes, Matías Díaz, who scored two waves of 7 points, totaling 14 points.

Young Peruvian Jesús Mendoza made waves as he shocked everyone by advancing in first place, showing an exceptional level. To wrap up this round, we had another heat of locals, with Jean Pierre Silva advancing in first place.

ROUND 2 / MEN PRIME SERIES

This round is crucial because the ones who advance join the world top tier in Round 3. There were quite a few surprises, with some major athletes getting eliminated, showcasing the high level of this competition.

Heat 1 was fiercely contested, with Chilean Bastian Venegas advancing again, followed closely by compatriot Rodrigo Silva. Brazilian Zacarias Nunes, who performed well in Itacoatiara, was eliminated, along with one of Iquique’s favorites, Gabriel Brantes.

The second heat was dominated by experienced Peruvian rider Miguel Rodríguez, with Chilean Maratiri Atán finishing second. The elimination of Chilean Kevin Torres was one of the day’s surprises. South African Hugo Naude also didn’t achieve his goal.

Another tightly contested heat was the third one of this round. Agustín Figueroa moved on again, showing his talent. Second place went to Brazilian Sergio Machado, who advanced with just 0.80 tenths of a point over Chilean Cristian Tapia. Fourth was Peruvian Fabio Saavedra.

The fourth heat of this wild round was thrilling! Chilean Moisés Silva showed his potential once more, followed by Sacha Damjanic, who achieved his goal. Just 0.10 tenths away, young Portuguese Joel Rodrigues got eliminated, along with super young Australian Jai Taylor.

Another tight heat, where all four riders were within a 1.5-point difference. Marcelo Faundes from Chile did his job and came in first, with Tahitian Tahiri Tehei in second. Young Chileans Juan Fischer and Maikol Pascal were very close behind.

The best score of the day came from Peruvian Cristopher Bayona, with an impressive 14.60 points. Matías Díaz, another favorite, also achieved his goal and advanced in second. Young Ecuadorian Jericco Rosero and Chilean Víctor López were eliminated.

Last year’s junior champion Mikelle Arriagada made his debut in the absolute category, proving his high level with the highest wave of the day—a big backflip in the critical zone scored at 8.75. World junior champion Micheel Yancce was right behind him. Brazilians Andre Luis and Peru’s Jesús Mendoza tried but couldn’t move forward.

The last heat of the day was also highly competitive and closely fought. First place went to Argentine rider Patricio Galay, who lives in Chile. Canarian Javi Domínguez achieved his goal, closely followed by top Chilean athletes Eduardo Carpinello and Jean Pierre Silva.

Today wrapped up an intense first day of competition packed with excitement and surprises, but mostly some amazing bodyboarding.

Tomorrow, the organizers are doing check-in at 7:30 AM local time, and they’re letting us know that it’s going to be a day just for the Women Prime Series category. So don’t miss out on the action for the girls tomorrow!

Huge thanks to all the sponsors and partners who made this possible.
