Sunday, June 1st. Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
At 6:45 a.m. local time, the bodyboarding action kicked off again on the beautiful Itacoatiara beach.

Today’s waves were a bit smaller but more organized, making it easier for the riders and requiring less physical effort than yesterday.

Today featured Rounds 3 and 4. The conditions and the level of the riders wowed everyone watching, with some super high scores. Notably, two waves scored a perfect 10!

- ROUND 3 (Non-elimination)
In Round 3, the top world riders took the stage. Remember, in this round, the top two finishers go straight to Round 5, while the third and fourth place riders get another shot in Round 4.
The current world champ, Armide Soliveres, made his debut in the first heat of the day. He stayed in fourth place most of the heat but managed to move up to second in the final minutes. A shoutout to Brazilian Isaias Ravic, who scored a sick left tube followed by a powerful roll, earning an 8 and finishing first in his heat.

South Africa’s Tristan Roberts proved once again he’s one of the most consistent guys on tour, finishing first with a total score of 15.25. French rider Yon Aimar also did well and secured his spot with a solid performance.

Morocco’s top rider Brahim Iddouch kept showing his talent and qualified directly to Round 5. Lionel Medina from the Canary Islands also made it through.

Yann Salaun scored the first perfect 10 of the competition, pulling off a super clean tube and a perfect aerial roll that got the crowd hyped. Yann Salaun, “I’m so stoked to get this score, it’s unreal. I thought about doing a backflip but decided to go with a projected roll instead.”

The second place went to Morocco’s Chajri Badr Eddine, currently ranked No. 3, who had a great debut in Brazil.

The fifth heat was super close, but multiple-time world champ Pierre Louis Costes kept his cool and took first, just ahead of Brazilian Socrates Santana, who was only 0.25 points behind.

Brazilian Sergio Machado, with a total of 14.35, continues to impress as one of the surprises of the event. He’s been winning all his heats since Round 1, clearly showing he’s here to compete. His fellow Brazilian Jose Otavio also showed great skills.

Another huge moment was when the announcer called out a perfect 10 for young Chilean Joaquin Soto, who pulled off an impossible tube on the powerful right waves of Itacoatiara. Joaquin said, “I’m so happy I got my first 10 ever! I didn’t think I’d make it out of that tube. I’m really proud that the next event is in Iquique with my people. I love seeing the best riders there and competing with them.”

French young gun Ethan Capdeville finished second in that heat.
The last heat of the day featured one of the greatest athletes in our sport’s history, Amaury Lavernhe. He finished with a tube and a roll, earning a 9.5. Amaury said, “I’m really happy with my performance and to be competing in one of my favorite events. This year, I’m a bit less focused on the tour since I’m more into my academy and family, but I’ll still compete here and in Gran Canaria.”

Young junior world champ Micheel Yancce also advanced, finishing second.

- ROUND 4 (Requalification)
This round is another chance for the athletes—now they’re really playing their last card to make it into the top 24 of the event.
Zacarias Nunes from Brazil and Cristopher Bayona from Peru showed off their radical surfing styles again, carving their way among the best.

Tahitian surfer Tehei Tahirivairau almost nailed a perfect heat, surfing super electrifyingly and smashing the lip with everything he’s got. He managed to beat the current number 1 in the IBC rankings, Brazilian Uri Valadao, and both are still in the competition.

Eder Luciano from Brazil brought his best game, literally smashing the lefts at Itacoatiara with some super radical backflips. His fellow Brazilian Gabriel Braga took second place, qualifying at the last minute.

The final heat of the day was super close—so close that the top two surfers ended up tied in points. The first place was decided in favor of Clement Lodeho from Réunion Island, and Portuguese surfer Joel Rodrigues also advanced as second in the last moments.

It was an incredible day full of adrenaline, tubes, and crazy maneuvers.

Tomorrow, the organizers will do check-in at 6:00 am. If conditions allow, they plan to continue with rounds 5 and 6.
The show is guaranteed, so we recommend not missing the live coverage.
