Strong local performances highlight the first day of competition in Portugal’s iconic stage of the IBC World Tour.
Sintra, Portugal – September 3, 2025 – The Sintra Bodyboard Pro Fest 25 officially kicked off today at Praia Grande, with Portugal’s top riders delivering standout performances on the opening day of action at the country’s most prestigious bodyboarding event.
The men’s division saw Ricardo Rosmaninho lead the charge for the home nation, posting one of the day’s highest totals with 14.75 points in his Round 2 heat. Rosmaninho’s powerful display was second only to France’s Maxime Castillo, who topped the scoring charts with 15.5 points, reminding fans of the international firepower on show in Sintra.

Portuguese success extended beyond Rosmaninho, as Rodrigo Lopes, Miguel Ferreira, and Francisco Ferreira all advanced to Round 3, while Frederico Castelo Branco and Ricardo Rosa exited the competition in Round 2.
In the women’s bracket, Luana Dourado confirmed her strong form by taking control of her heat and progressing alongside Mariana Silva, eliminating Morocco’s Aghouali Soukaina and Portugal’s Carolina Ferro Dias. Dourado was joined in advancing by Alice Teotónio, adding to the Portuguese presence in Round 2, where they will meet national stars Joana Schenker, Filipa Broeiro, and Teresa Padrela. Meanwhile, Mariana Rosa and Ferro Dias were unable to advance.

Reflecting on his victory, Rosmaninho expressed confidence in his campaign:
“We had some great waves this afternoon that allowed us to put on a show. I’d really like to improve on my best result here, which was a quarterfinal finish. If the conditions hold, we’ll be able to show the real talent of the riders competing.”

Dourado also set her sights on going further in the competition:
“I really enjoy competing in Sintra, and it felt great to start with a win. Now, I hope to go as far as possible. I know it won’t be easy, but I’m aiming for a strong result.”

Beyond the heats, the Municipality of Sintra—the main sponsor of this 29th edition—launched sustainability initiatives at Praia Grande, including beach-waste sculpture building, the “Urban Water Cycle” exhibition, and the “Sintra Glass + Glass” recycling campaign led by SMAS de Sintra.

The program also includes community activities, with Saturday featuring a women’s open bodyboarding class (“Boogie Chicks”) and a large-scale fitness session supported by People Family Club, 100% Fitclub, Gimnoanima, and Holme Place.
Looking ahead, conditions are forecast to intensify tomorrow with bigger waves and stronger winds, promising another dramatic day of world-class competition at Praia Grande.
