THE HAWAIIAN LEGEND DOMINATED THE DK AND THE YOUNG SPANIARD TOOK THE PRO JUNIOR
Dave Hubbard and Jorge Hernandez Cabrera were the men of the day at the wrap up of the Sintra Pro Fest 2023, with the Hawaiian winning another final at Praia Grande after taking the 10th World Title at the Maldives and the young Spaniard reinforcing his status as one of the biggest promises of the sport for the next decade.
Dubb beat Peru’s Ricardo Sotelo in the semifinals (17.00 vs 8.75) and then imposed his surfing against Spain’s David Valladares in the final (15.00-9.75).
“Winning today was the icing on the cake [ after the title in the Maldives]. I don’t remembre a year when I wasn’t in the final in Sintra so it was very rewarding to win here again.”
About his motivation to keep competing at 41 years old, with 10 world titles under his belt, Dave Hubbard simply replied:
“I still love bodyboard and to compete and motivate and inspire the younger generations to participate in this sport. I’m still stoked to compete and meet all my friends on tour. That is my motivation, to surf and have fun.”
Meanwhile, Jorge beat his fellow countryman Unax Pascual Alcantara in the Pro Junior finals after besting Yubal Perez (another spanish rider) in the quarter finals and Peruvian Micheel Yancce in the semifinals.
