Sari Ohhara closer to the world title in Sintra but Neymara Carvalho wants to “spoil her plans”

TERESA MIRANDA SUFFERS UPSET IN PRAIA GRANDE

Sept 8th, Praia Grande

Sari Ohhara is one step closer to the world title after beating Joana Schenker in the Sintra Bodyboard Pro Fest quarter finals, today in Praia Grande, and watching her countrywoman Namika Yamashita beat her title contender Teresa Miranda.

But there is still danger in Sari’s path, with Brazilian legend Neymara Carvalho winning an nail biting heat against Portugal’s Teresa Padrela. Neymara was losing the heat with about 5 minutes to go but managed to score a 6.10 wave that propelled her into the lead and then sealed the deal with a 5,40, beating the former Portuguese national champion.

After the deed, Neymara, 5 time world champion, 47, confessed that she even thought everything was lost but managed to change her mindset.

“I found my motivation thinking about so many victories here in Sintra and the many beautiful moments I lived here. I was already thinking about congratulating Teresa but refused to surrender and thought ‘where is that girl that turned heats around on the countdown?’ That gave me the strength to win!”

The brazilian icon, currently third place on the world rankings, complimented Teresa Padrela and reaffirmed her title ambitions:

“I want to congratulate Teresa, who is improving every time she competes on the world tour and deserves a victory. Sari has one hand on the trophy but I’m here to spoil her plans.”
