A day dedicated to the women of the world tour kicked off at 7:15 am with the elimination round 2 of the WOMEN’S division, leaving pleasant surprises such as the outstanding performance of the only Costa Rican present at the event: Dulce Agüero achieving 12.75 points, the highest total score of the division so far, while, the young revelation from Portugal at just 14 years of age, Luana Da Silva Dourado, has been standing out with her performance in both the Junior Women and Women division , totaling 12.25 points by winning the last heat of this round with the second-highest score of the division.
We wrapped up the day with a round of “woman-to-woman” repechage in the Junior Women’s division with 4 heats, where Bianca Simoes from Brazil and Alice Teotonio from Portugal emerged as the top scorers of the day in the category, with 9.75 and 12.00 pts. respectively.
Meanwhile, Hannah Saavedra, one of Peru’s brightest prospects, who competed today in both categories and secured her spot with the support of her parents and a sizable delegation, expressed her joy at competing once again in Antofagasta. “I’m very happy to be back here and represent my country. Beyond the competition, I emphasize the importance of this type of event in Chile, where I’ve been able to make friends and always receive a warm welcome.”
What’s Next:
Tomorrow (Thursday, May 16th) will be a rest day for all competitors due to the lack of swell, so the competition will resume on Friday (May 17th) with the remaining categories. According to International Bodyboarding Corporation (IBC) judge Alejandro Sánchez, it’s expected that wave conditions will improve in the coming days, allowing riders to execute better maneuvers on the waves.
Additionally, the organizers of ABF, hosted by Club Budeo and presented by Escondida | BHP and SQM Yodo Nutrición Vegetal, have called on the local community to attend with confidence and enjoy a world-class event, full of action and surprises.
A reminder to all that this event will be the last and final stage to crown two world champions: the Women’s Junior World Champion and the Drop Knee World Champion.
