New Talents / Luana Dourado “Wildcard in Maldives”

From IBC World Tour we want to introduce you to one of the new talents in the women´s category.

She has just received an invitation to the Visit Maldives Pro 2024. She is currently number 2 in the Junior Women Ranking IBC.

We have the pleasure of interviewing LUANA DOURADO

Luana Dourado is 14 years old, born in Portugal (Póvoa de Varzim) but lives in Vila do Conde in Oporto.

She has been practicing bodyboard for 5 years and started competing from the second year.

Her best results are World runner-up jr & national champion under18 fem & two-champion national under14 fem.

Her favorite maneuver is the ARS in the tubes.

Currently, studies are a priority for both me and my family, this year I finished the 9th grade with good grades, I am part of the framework of school excellence.

  • Tell us a little about how you feel about receiving a Wildcard for the upcoming IBC World Tour event, Visit Maldives Pro 2024.

I am very happy that I was chosen for this wildcard, where I will do my best and I hope to be able to show my best level and be able to overcome the 5th place obtained in Wahine Bodyboarding Pro 2024

  • What do you think about IBC including the Woman Junior category in the circuit?

I think it was a good bet, since you can show the future of the next female generation that comes strong

  • For IBC, it is very important that athletes develop not only as sportspeople but also prioritize academic results even more. What are your future plans both academically and athletically?

Next year I will attend secondary education in the science and technology course, I still don’t know for sure what profession I want to follow, but I would like to be connected to health.

As for sports results, I aim to be a national champion but also one day world champion.

  • Would you like to participate in the IBC World Tour circuit in the future?

Yes, I would very much like to be able to compete in all stages of the IBC, this year I will do four stages (Wahine, Antofagasta, Maldivas and Sintra) of the open and compete in the junior. But because they are all in the school period, it becomes difficult. These last two years I was junior world runner-up, I’m going after the trophy that has run away from me.

  • What is your favorite event within this circuit?

Of the events I’ve already participated in, I really like Antofagasta but I’m anxious and I think I’ll love the Maldives.

  • Do you have any role models in bodyboarding?

I have several idols I grew up watching the videos of Isabela Sousa but currently Sari and Joana surf very well. In the men’s, Tristan Roberts and Ricardo Rosmaninho are my references.

  • Do you have any other hobbies?

I also play futsal at my city club and i love reading.

Luana Dourado: Thank you IBC WORLD TOUR for The opportunity. See you in Maldives
