DAY 1 MEN’S PRIME SERIES / MOROCCO TAGHAZOUT BAY

So yesterday, Tuesday, they held the briefing for the Men’s and Women’s divisions of the first Prime Series of the year.

The 2025 IBC World Tour officially kicks off in the stunning Taghazout Bay, Morocco, as the best bodyboarders in the world take on the renowned waves of Anza Beach, Agadir.

The Men & Women Prime Series, the most prestigious category in the tour, starts today. These Prime Series events offer the highest ranking points and the largest prize pools, with $35,000 awarded in the Men’s division and $25,000 in the Women’s division. The elite competitors are set to push the limits of performance in these powerful Moroccan waves, vying for an early-season advantage in the IBC World Title race.

Set against the backdrop of world-class waves and a rich surf culture, the 2025 IBC Morocco Pro brings together the sport’s most skilled athletes for an exhilarating battle in the Prime Series showdown. Expect intense maneuvers, deep barrels, and high scores as the competition unfolds.

The organizers decided that today, Wednesday, only the first three rounds of the Men’s Division would hit the water. The conditions at Anza Beach today have been amazing—3-meter waves, no wind, lefts and rights with plenty of ramps, and we saw some really high scores.

ROUND 1 / Men’s Prime Series

Round 1 in the Prime Series is a qualifying round since they respect the rankings. So, the athletes who don’t have rankings from previous years get to compete.

A standout from this round was Junior champ Louka Zaninotto from France, who also competed in the Men’s Division and scored the highest total of the event so far—an impressive 17.1. Plus, Luka got a solid 9 points on his best wave, pulling off a sick backflip followed by a roll and finishing with a stylish reverse against the lip.

In the same heat as Luka was the junior runner-up, Moroccan Izikki Youssef, who advanced in second place with a great total of 14.85. Both of them are showing that the juniors are coming in strong, and the future of this sport is looking bright.

Also moving on to round 2 are junior riders Athanae Blanchard and Dimitri Bengon, both from France. From Morocco, the qualifiers are Loudiy Saad, Edd-Dahbi Abdellah, and Bendaghou Ali. Joining them is another junior standout, South African John Krige.

ROUND 2 / Men Prime Series

It was a sunny day with some solid waves at Taghazout Bay. This Round 2 was super competitive, with a ton of Moroccan athletes making it through.

Once again, junior champ Louka Zaninotto from France scored the highest in Round 2 with a solid 14.5, making it clear he’s someone to watch. In the same heat, Morocco’s Allioui Nourddine came in second with 13.75.

Following them, the top scores went to Moroccan athlete Boulahia Hassan with 12.85 and the well-known Cape Verdean surfer Jason Mascarenhas with 12.75.

Joining them in Round 3 are Moroccan riders Hamza Momou, Iddouch Yassine, Soussi Brahim, Tarajdalt Abdelllah, El Ghazi Achraf, Jmiji Salaheddine, and Loudiy Saad. That’s a whopping 9 Moroccans moving on to Round 3, showing just how strong this country is in surfing. French surfer Tehei Tahirivairau also made it through.

ROUND 3 / Men Prime Series

Round 3 was absolutely thrilling, with amazing waves and aerial maneuvers that had the crowd on their feet.

A highlight of this round was the first perfect 10 of the event, awarded to local rider Badr Eddine Chajri, who surfed a right with incredible flow and speed, pulling off a fantastic backflip followed by an inverted aerial. Badr Eddine also scored the highest total of the event so far with an impressive 18.25, making him a serious contender.

In the first heat of this round, the Moroccans kept impressing, with Boulahia Hassan and Iddouch Yassine advancing smoothly against their competitors.

French surfer Tehei Tahirivairau led his heat, followed closely by Moroccan rider Zidane Ait El Hachemi, both showing top-notch skills.

In heat 3, El Ghazi Achraf took first place, closely followed by French surfer Jourdain Desprez Leo.

Heat 4 was the standout of the day, featuring Badr Eddine Chajri and his perfect 10. We also have to give a shoutout to the second-place finisher in this heat, Abdelhafeid Gharib, who scored a solid 17.1.

Once again, Moroccan riders are proving their quality. Heat 5 was dominated by Achraf Lahrach, who pulled off a great left roll for a score of 7.25, while Boufouchk Ilias took second.

Canary Islands rider Javi Domínguez snagged first in his heat, moving on alongside Moroccan athlete Chokhmy El Mehdi.

The seventh heat was led by Moroccan rider Mohamed Abdi, who pushed Louka Zaninotto into second place—no small feat since Louka has been strong since Round 1.

The last heat of the day featured Moroccans Yassine Elghzal, who advanced comfortably with a score of 13.5, and his fellow countryman Bahloul Ahmed.

That wraps up a long first day of competition for the Men Prime Series, with some athletes hitting the water up to three times.

In the next round of the Men Prime Series, the world’s top surfers will join in, leaving us with the 32 best competitors. We’re definitely in for an amazing show in the waters of Taghazout Bay, Agadir, Morocco.

The organizers plan to kick off Round 4 for the Men and Rounds 1 and 2 for the Women Prime Series tomorrow, so the ladies will be hitting the water for their first competition.

The weather forecast looks pretty similar to today, so we can expect good conditions and an exciting day with the best surfers in action.
