Today kicked off at 9:00 AM local time. The wave conditions dropped compared to the previous days, but Anza Beach treated us to a sunny day with no wind, making it perfect for both the riders and the spectators.
As the day went on, the ocean’s strength decreased, so the organizers decided to only hold Round 4 of the Women Prime Series today, since it’s a repechage round.

ROUND 4 (Repechage) / Women Prime Series
This round is a repechage and consists of just two heats. Each heat has 4 competitors, and the top two from each heat move on to join the top 12 qualifiers for Taghazout Bay Morocco 2025.
– The two heats were super intense, with scores being really close. In the first heat, the top two were literally tied on points, both scoring 11.9. Congrats to the two Portuguese competitors, Joana Schenker, who was the world champion in 2017 and is currently ranked 8th in the IBC, and the young 15-year-old Luana Dourado, who was the runner-up in the Women Junior Division last year.

In this heat, we say goodbye to Blanca Simoes from Brazil and Alice Teotonio from Portugal, both of whom put on a great performance.

Joana Schenker said, “I’m really happy to have advanced; it’s been great to have this second chance in the repechage round. I love the new IBC format with the Rising and Prime Series, and I’m still motivated for the next round.”
– The second heat was brutal, with an incredibly high level of competition. The five-time world champion, Neymara Carvalho from Brazil, showed her skill and experience, scoring a solid 13.3 points. She edged out Portuguese competitor Filipa Broeiro by just 0.5 points, who scored 13.25. It was a wild heat!

Teresa Padrela from Portugal and Valentina Díaz from Chile didn’t get a chance to advance and are leaving the competition with good vibes.

Neymara Carvalho shared, “I felt really good in the water today. Yesterday was double the pressure competing with my daughter Luna Hardman; it always makes me more nervous. Today I was more focused, picked better waves, and managed to advance in first place. I’m really happy to be in Morocco; this is my 30th year competing on the world tour, so I’m super excited!”

Today was a short competition day. After carefully reviewing the weather forecast, the organizers saw that there wouldn’t be any waves for the weekend, so they’re giving the competitors some days off since another swell is expected for Monday.

So, the next check-in for competitors will be on Monday, February 10, at 8:15 AM local time. The final rounds are coming up, and the excitement is ramping up, so don’t miss it!
We’ll see you again on Monday at the Taghazout Bay Morocco Pro 2025.
