After several days without competition due to a lack of waves, and knowing that the waiting period ends on Sunday, February 16, the organizers decided to do a double check-in today. After assessing the situation and the state of the sea, they gave the green light starting at 11:15 AM local time.

Today, Round 5 and the Quarterfinals of the Women’s Prime Series took place. The conditions at Anza Beach have been a bit lacking in waves, but the girls still showed their high level and great form.
ROUND 5 / WOMEN’S PRIME SERIES
This round consists of heats with 3 competitors, where the top two will secure a spot in the Quarterfinals, making it into the top 8 of Taghazout Bay. It’s worth noting that all the heats in this round were really close.

The first heat of the day was won by Maylla Venturin from Brazil with a total of 11.05, just 0.5 points behind was Japanese surfer Kaira Shirahase. Yuka Nishimura bids farewell to the competition after a solid performance.

Filipa Broeiro from Portugal took first place with a total of 12.75, closely followed by Austria’s Alexandra Rinder with 12 points. A big surprise came with the elimination of the current world champion, Brazil’s Maira Viana.

In a super tight heat, the current Junior World Champion, Luna Hardman, led the way and advanced first in her heat. Second place went to one of the event’s breakout stars, Moroccan rider Soukaina Aghouali. Another shocker was the elimination of five-time world champion Neymara Carvalho, who was just 0.15 points away from moving on.

The last heat of this round was led by Japanese surfer Namika Yamashita with a total of 12.85, closely followed by another title contender, Joana Schenker from Portugal. One of the breakout stars, young Portuguese rider Luana Dourado, bids farewell to the competition.

QUARTERFINALS / WOMEN’S PRIME SERIES
The woman-on-woman matchups begin, with only two in the water fighting for a podium spot. Four thrilling heats featuring the best of the competition.

Alexandra Rinder secured her spot with one of the best waves of the day, scoring 7.25 for two solid left rolls, which guarantees her a place on the podium. Brazilian Mayra Venturin exits the competition after a strong showing, proving her high level.

Next up was Filipa Broeiro from Portugal, matching Alexandra’s best wave of the day with 7.25 points for two very smooth right rolls, also achieving the best total of this round. Japanese surfer Kaira Shirahase says goodbye after a great championship.

In a titanic battle in the third heat, Joana Schenker from Portugal took first place with a total of 11.95, making it into the top four. She was closely followed by the current Junior Women’s champion, young Brazilian Luna Hardman, who leaves with a well-deserved fifth place.

The last heat of the day was super exciting, with Japanese surfer Namika Yamashita coming out on top with a total of 12.5. The only remaining Moroccan competitor, Soukaina Aghouali, bids farewell to applause from the crowd and fellow riders, showcasing Morocco’s potential across all categories.

Tomorrow, the organizers will do an early check-in, and it’s expected that the wave size will increase, possibly continuing the competition with the Men’s Prime Series. Don’t miss it, as the show is guaranteed to be amazing!
