PWDs Shine with Determination and Overcoming Spirit at the ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro in Serra (ES)

September 13, 2025 | Solemar Beach, Jacaraípe – Serra (Brazil)

Saturday (13) was all about emotion, inclusion, and overcoming limits at the ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboarding Pro 2025, presented by Extrabom. The PWD (Persons with Disabilities) division thrilled the crowd at Solemar Beach in Jacaraípe, crowning this year’s champions in a celebration of resilience and achievement.

Pernambuco’s Carla Cunha claimed her third consecutive title in the Amputee category; Rio de Janeiro’s Renata Bazone secured back-to-back victories in the Visually Impaired division; and Paraíba’s Tiana Dantas not only became a two-time winner in the Mastectomized category but also announced her retirement, ending her competitive career on a high note.

Although the PWD division does not count points toward the IBC World Tour rankings, it remains one of the most unique and inspiring highlights of the Wahine, year after year.

Champion Highlights

🏆 Carla Cunha (Amputees) – three-time champion

“Three years at the Wahine, I’m very happy. I was the first female amputee to start in this sport, back in 2021, and I found myself at the Wahine — it changed my life. We are all winners. We’ve overcome the limits life has imposed on us. This is a true show of inclusion and courage,” said the 43-year-old athlete, who won the final with 12.40 points.

🏆 Renata Bazone (Visually Impaired) – two-time champion

“I competed here for the first time last year, and now, very emotional, I win again. I was so anxious I couldn’t sleep. I got a taste of it in 2024, and now once more. I’m repeating the partnership with my guide, Dudu Freitas, who came from Ceará — this connection is essential and makes all the difference in my life,” said the 51-year-old, who scored 9.85 points.

🏆 Tiana Dantas (Mastectomized) – two-time champion & farewell

“I close my career in style here at the Wahine. Only those who have lived through cancer know what it is. The Wahine feeds me, it gives me energy. Now I’m passing the baton to begin a new chapter. I’m very happy with everything. I came, I fulfilled my mission, and the path is open,” declared the Paraíba athlete, who won with 12.25 points.
