The ArcelorMittal Wahine Bodyboard Pro turned Saturday into an emotional day dedicated entirely to community and inclusion. The event reaffirmed its commitment to equal opportunity through sport, standing out as a unique fixture on the world tour that puts accessibility, social impact, and representation front and center.
Neymara Carvalho Institute Exhibition Heats The surf at Jacaraípe hosted two exhibition heats featuring young groms from the Neymara Carvalho Institute (INC) a legendary grassroots project that has produced some of the world tour's biggest stars and top-tier international athletes.
Family on the Waves: Mother-Daughter Session One of the day's warmest moments came during the mother-daughter showcase. Family pairs hit the water together to celebrate bodyboarding across generations, earning special honors during the awards ceremony.
Adaptive Divisions & The "Bela's 10" Award The action continued across three adaptive (PWD) divisions:
• Breast cancer survivors
• Amputee and mobility-impaired athletes
• Visually impaired athletes
In the visually impaired division, Carlinha Cunha dropped the performance of the day, locking in the event's very first perfect 10 score. That milestone earned her the special "Bela's 10" trophy, a award given to any rider who scores a perfect 10 at the Wahine Pro. The trophy honors Isabela "Bela" Nogueira—a Brazilian and global bodyboarding legend who passed away earlier this year—celebrating her lasting legacy both in and out of the water.
The day wrapped up with an inspiring awards ceremony packed with good vibes.
