ALBERTO PÉREZ RUNS IT BACK AT THE 2026 GROM KING, PUNCHES TICKET TO THE WORLD FINALS
Spain's Alberto Pérez secures his second consecutive Grom King title, punching his ticket to the 2026 World Finals after a dominant performance.
Arucas, Gran Canaria, Spain — September 12, 2026 • Spain’s Alberto Pérez, the reigning world runner-up, goes back-to-back to claim his second straight Grom King title. Molocai Beach in San Andrés (Arucas Coast) was pumping this Saturday for the 2026 Grom King. As an official Rising Series event on the IBC World Tour, this was the last chance for Junior Men to lock in their spot on the global circuit, while also scoring points for the Canarian Bodyboard Circuit. With awesome wave conditions all day, the event locked in the final stack of riders heading to the World Finals, set to throw down from October 17–31 at the legendary Gran Canaria Frontón King in Gáldar, where the 2026 Junior World Champ will be crowned. HOW IT WENT DOWN • Round 1: Alberto Pérez set the pace early, dropping the single highest wave score of the entire contest with a filthy 7.90 backflip, finishing with a 14.83 heat total. France’s Mael Martínez also went big, stomping a 7.57 backflip. Local crew Eric Trujillo, Yahel Ojeda, Enrique Rodríguez, Gabriel Dorta, and Enzo Rodríguez all took care of business to win their heats. • Quarterfinals: High tide forced the riders to get smart with their wave selection. Mael Martínez posted the round’s high score (13.33) with some heavy ARSs/rolls. Yahel Ojeda, Gabriel Dorta, and Alberto Pérez all won their heats, while Portugal’s Frederico Castelo put on a clinic to lock up his spot. • Semifinal Heat: Mael Martínez went nuts in Semi 1, dropping two heavy backflips (7.20 and 7.73) for a massive 14.93—the highest total score of the event—advancing right alongside Jorge Morales. Semi 2 was a total nail-biter between Frederico Castelo and Alberto Pérez, with Pérez snagging a wave in the final seconds to steal the win. • The Final: The championship heat was an absolute battle. Pérez proved why he's the defending champ, going left and right in all conditions, sweeping every single heat of the contest to take the crown back-to-back.
