With an emotional minute of silence in memory of Alexander Wittmann, the first day of competition of the Erizos Iquique Bodyboard Pro 2022 began on Bellavista beach. The women’s and junior categories were the first to challenge the waves at La Punta 2.
With six heats for women and four for juniors, the activity began in Iquique where the public came to support and witness the spectacular movements of the riders.
In the women’s category, vibrant heats were played where the Brazilian Francis Aoto and Luna Hardmann began to emerge as the main favorites to win the tournament by scoring 12.84 and 12.50 respectively.
On the side of the national competitors, Giselle Caseli and Valentina Jara brought out their experience and managed to qualify in their respective series.
After her classification, Giselle Caseli said that “I am very happy to be participating in this event organized in our city in the El Morro sector and I invite everyone to come and support us and watch the championship.”
For her part, the Brazilian Aoto indicated that “I am very happy with my heat and score. The waves were at a very high level and the competition will be very demanding”.
While in junior the qualifiers for the second round were defined, Michele Aquiles had the best score with 15.16 where he was followed by Josias Foronda with 13.17 as the two best scores of the day in the category.
Another of the qualifiers was the Chilean Lucas Coellar with a score of 10.90 and after advancing to the second round, he expressed that “I am very happy to finish first in my heat. The waves are super good and I’m motivated for the next few days”.
The competition will continue this Monday, May 9, where from 07:00 a.m. the riders will go out to look for the best waves in La Punta 2 where the men will also compete.
