Day 3 Highlights/Photos/Press Release “Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival 2023”

THE WOMEN WERE PROTAGONISTS OF THE THIRD DAY OF THE ABF

  • The immense crowd gathered at Llacolén beach erupted in continuous cheers, passionately supporting their beloved riders at every exhilarating moment.
  • Antofogasta’s very own Constanza Soto, a remarkable 13 year old, left a lasting impression as she fearlessly competed in both the WOMEN and JUNIOR WOMEN divisions.

As is the case every weekend at the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival (ABF), the spectators inundated the shores of Llacolén Beach to revel in a world-class sporting spectacle. Men, women, and children alike cheered for their favorite riders, immersing themselves in the heartwarming ambiance carefully crafted by the event, which was filled with delightful surprises, catering to families.

Meanwhile, in the water, as they conquered the majestic waves, the world’s top female riders began their qualifying rounds, with the WOMEN and JUNIOR WOMEN divisions taking center stage. Among the seasoned contenders, Chilean rider Paloma Freyggang stood out, securing the day’s highest score (7.25) with an impressive wave during the fourth heat.

“I’m happy with today’s performance. The conditions couldn’t have been better, with sizable waves and light winds. I’m committed to sustaining this level of performance and aiming for comparable results to what I achieved in the same circuit last year,” Paloma expressed at the conclusion of her qualifying round.

The day’s surprise unfolded with Constanza Soto, a 13-year-old girl from Antofagasta. Despite being the youngest competitor in the WOMEN division, she secured an impressive second place, proving that her young age is no barrier to reaching for ambitious dreams. Soto further demonstrated her remarkable talent in the JUNIOR WOMEN division, advancing her into the subsequent rounds.

“I had a great feeling in both heats of the competition. It’s my first time participating in a world championship, and successfully advancing through the first round in both divisions holds immense significance for me. It’s an achievement that means a lot to me. I would like to express my gratitude to all the supporters, both present here and those tuning in from their homes through the live broadcast,” Constanza explained.

Similar to their Chilean counterparts, the Brazilian “armada” also delivered outstanding results, with Francis Aoto and Dalete Mousinho shining brightly. Both riders displayed solid performances, leading their heats in the JUNIOR WOMEN division.

This Sunday, the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival organizers are once again anticipating a massive crowd. The competition will kick off at 7:15 am, and the invitation is extended to enjoy a fun day with your family and take part in the exciting activities planned throughout the day. On the sports front, the event expects the participation of the world’s top athletes in both the MEN and WOMEN pro divisions.
