Just days ago, the American athlete made history at the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival (ABF) as the first woman to compete in the DROPKNEE category. Today, Aarya Talbano once again showcased her remarkable talent on the powerful waves of the “La Cúpula” section, securing the crown in the JUNIOR WOMEN division.
She delivered outstanding performances on the waves, executing maneuvers that instantly captivated both the audience and the attentive judges. Her opponent, Hannah Saavedra, representing Peru, had also been impressing the experts with her exceptional skills.
In the water, amidst an atmosphere filled with anticipation at Playa Llacolén, Aarya confidently rode wave after wave, performing complex maneuvers and displaying a deep understanding of the ocean’s rhythm. After thirty minutes of intense competition, the Hawaiian native was crowned the champion of the 2023 ABF in the JUNIOR WOMEN division, earning an impressive score of 12.50, surpassing her opponent’s 9.25.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude (Mahalo) to all those who have supported me and donated. It really means a lot to me and my family. It’s not easy to travel here; it’s not cheap. I’d like to say to all the Wahine bodyboarders: keep doing what you’re doing, keep practicing, keep progressing. Don’t be afraid to enter competitions. Just do it. You don’t know how you’re going to do until you go for it. I also want to say thank you to the ABF and IBC for having these competitions; they’re really cool!” commented Talbano.
While the JUNIOR WOMEN division has already found its new champion, the competition remains fiercely contested in the MEN, WOMEN, DROPKNEE, and JUNIOR MEN divisions. These elimination rounds will continue until May 28, commencing at 7:15 am and finishing up around 2:00 pm. Therefore, the organizers extend their invitation to families to continue attending Playa Llacolén and immerse themselves in this unique experience that unites sports, culture, and the environment.
