ANTOFAGASTA’S DAMJANIC ADVANCES TO THE QUARTER FINALS IN THE ABF 2023

On the ninth day of the Antofagasta Bodyboard Festival 2023, the waves once again stole the spotlight. Despite the swell impacting the region being slightly smaller than the previous day, the conditions remained ideal for the progression of this compelling sport that continues to captivate a rapidly expanding global audience.
The event stood out for the participation of Chileans in the final rounds, showcasing talents like Manuel Cepeda, Matías Diaz, Sebastián Siede, Moisés Silva, and Sasha Damjanic. It was Sasha Damjanic who, in particular, advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition before the judges called an end to the day around noon.
“The waves are still big and challenging. It’s a difficult situation as it was hard to catch good waves, but I managed to get a couple, performed a very good roll, and from there, I controlled the heat, looking at the score I needed and focusing on what I needed to maintain my position. I had to compete against Sebastián Siede, who has been my mentor here at La Cúpula for many years, always providing support and valuable guidance for my improvement. It was a nice moment to share the wave with him,” expressed Sasha Damjanic while reflecting on his performance.
On Saturday, the ABF will begin the competition at 7:30 am, resuming with the heats that will ascertain the remaining quarterfinalists. Anticipated are enthralling matchups, including the clash between local rider Manuel Cepeda, who will go head-to-head against Moisés Silva from Arica, as well as the eagerly awaited encounter between Tanner McDaniel from Hawai’i and the emerging talent of Brazilian Bodyboarding, Sócrates Santana, among others. The judges are anticipated to disclose the timetable for the WOMEN semifinals and the DROPKNEE and JUNIOR MEN final.
On the cusp of its final stage, the ABF 2023 anticipates a significant turnout this weekend. The organizers, once more, beckon the people of Antofagasta to gather at Playa Llacolén and relish in the serene ambiance enveloping this world-class sporting event. Moreover, parallel activities such as environmental workshops, yoga sessions, gastronomy, and live music, among other appealing surprises, are set to commence.
