Saturday, October 11, Gáldar, Gran Canaria, Spain.
The wait period has officially started for the last event of the IBC World Tour, where the world titles will be decided in the Men’s and Junior Men’s divisions. This is a fantastic show that takes place at one of the best waves on the planet for bodyboarding, El Frontón, also known as “the beast,” located in Gáldar, Gran Canaria.

On Tuesday, October 7, the official presentation of the Gran Canaria Frontón King was held at the Cabildo de Gran Canaria Palace, where political leaders from supporting institutions were joined by the event promoters. Everyone agreed on the significance of this competition on a global scale and highlighted the presence of the world’s top athletes hailing from 15 different nationalities across 5 continents.
The high performance of the local Canarian athletes was emphasized, featuring the two current world champions—Armide Soliveres in the Men’s division and Alexander Montes in the Junior Men’s division—as well as the recent world champion in the Women’s division, Alexandra Rinder. This is undoubtedly a great achievement for Spanish and Canarian sports.

They also highlighted a major new feature of the Gran Canaria Frontón King this year: it will be the first event in Spain to operate 100% sustainably with solar energy. This great initiative has been developed by brands like Bluetti (“solar battery systems”) and Bee Green (“solar panels”).
In terms of competition, there’s a lot of excitement with up to 6 contenders for the title in the Men’s division: Uri Valadao (Brazil), Armide Soliveres (Spain), Pierre Louis Costes (France), Gabriel Braga (Brazil), Tristan Roberts (South Africa), and Badr Eddine (Morocco). A big surprise this year is the participation of legendary athlete Esteve McKenzie, known as “Bullet,” who is also accompanying his son, Ossian McKenzie, winner of the junior Men Rising Series in Australia. It’s truly an honor to have him at the final event of the IBC World Tour.

In the Junior Men’s division, the Grand Final will feature 48 qualifiers from the Rising Series events held in Morocco, Chile, Australia, and Spain. This season, the IBC has introduced a new format that reduces costs and travel for juniors, allowing them to focus more on their studies. At El Frontón, all 48 athletes will have a shot at the title, as everyone starts in round 1, and the winner of the Gran Canaria Frontón King will be the new Junior Men’s World Champion of the IBC World Tour 2025.

The Gran Canaria Frontón King continues to impress with pioneering alternatives in this sport. This year, for the first time in bodyboarding history, the organization has designed exclusive rash guards featuring the names of the athletes currently in the world top 16—a novelty that the riders have received with great enthusiasm and motivation, as this has never been done before.

After the swag bag distribution and the competition and safety briefing, a group photo was taken followed by a check-in to determine if the competition would kick off today. The technical committee decided to give the competitors a day off since the wave conditions weren’t suitable for the event. They informed everyone that better waves are on the way and reminded athletes and fans to stay tuned for the next call, as we eagerly anticipate the awakening of the beast for the best bodyboarding show in the world.
The day wrapped up with the Corona Sunset and live music at the most beautiful sunset in Gran Canaria, which hundreds of fans enjoyed at this stunning coastline in Gáldar.
