– Filipa Broeiro and young gun Ethan Pérez dropped the highest combined heat scores of the day.

– World champs and international heavyweights kept their momentum going at the 30th edition of Portugal’s iconic event.

Day 2 of the 30th Sintra Bodyboard Festival kicked off bright and early at 8:30 AM local time. With small surf rolling into Praia Grande, the world’s best riders had to bring out their most technical skills to lock down a spot in the next rounds.

WOMEN PRIME SERIES: FILIPA BROEIRO RUNS THE SHOW AS THE FIRST UPSETS LAND

The action started with Round 3 (Main Event) for the women—a non-elimination round where the top two riders from each heat punched their ticket straight to Round 5:

• Filipa Broeiro stays hot: The local star stole the spotlight once again, throwing down a 14.00 point combined score for the highest heat total in the women’s division.

• Favorites take care of business: Japan’s Namika Yamashita (fresh off her win in the Maldives), two-time world champ Joana Schenker, and recent Miss Quebramar Cup winner Luna Hardman all delivered, taking first in their heats. Joining them with direct passes were Maira Viana, Teresa Padrela, and Sara Abiko.

Things heated up in Round 4 (Repeshage) as riders fought to lock in a spot in the Top 12:

• Brazil’s Maylla Venturin took a stacked heat, followed by 5x world champ Neymara Carvalho. The shocker of the day came with the early exit of 2x world champ Alexandra Rinder, along with Portugal’s Mariana Silva.

• In heat two, local standout Luana Dourado put on a show to win her match, advancing alongside Japan’s Yuka Nishimura, sending Miku Owazaka and Emiliana González packing.

MEN RISING SERIES: TOP 16 DEBUTS & ETHAN PÉREZ PUTS ON A CLINIC

The men’s division brought out part of the world’s Top 16 for Round 2, with the top two in each heat advancing straight to Round 4:

• Wave and score of the day: Young Spanish phenom Ethan Pérez wowed the judges, pulling off a smooth ARS-to-rollo combination to score an 8.50 (the best wave of the day) and a 15.00 total score.

• Champs move through: Defending champion and current world #3 Pierre-Louis Costes made a strong debut, winning his heat effortlessly. World #2 Amaury Lavernhe, 2024 world champ Armide Soliveres, and Moroccan legend Brahim Iddouch also took care of business in their matchups.

• Local upset: Portugal’s Miguel Ferreira pulled off a huge upset by taking first ahead of reigning world champ Uri Valadao (Brazil), backing it up with a solid 7.50 wave. Moroccan rider Badr Eddine (12.35 pts) and local Francisco Ferreira also scored solid heat wins.

With conditions changing, event officials called a halt to the action after just two heats of Round 3 Repeshage. Spain’s Nil Duño and France’s Yann Salaun grabbed wins in those heats, advancing alongside Ethan Capdeville and Arthur Buggle.
